Ready Or Not

READY OR NOT
📖 Bible Study Post:

Text: Luke 12:38-45 | New International Version

38 It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the middle of the night or toward daybreak. 39 But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. 40 You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.”

41 Peter asked, “Lord, are you telling this parable to us, or to everyone?”

42 The Lord answered, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their food allowance at the proper time? 43 It will be good for that servant whom the master finds doing so when he returns. 44 Truly I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 45 But suppose the servant says to himself, ‘My master is taking a long time in coming,’ and he then begins to beat the other servants, both men and women, and to eat and drink and get drunk.

In Gospel of Luke 12:38–45, Jesus reminds His followers that His return will be unexpected — like a master coming home at night when no one is expecting. The message is clear: be ready at all times.

In Luke 12:38–45, Jesus tells a story about servants waiting for their master to return. The master comes at an unexpected time — maybe late at night — and the servants who are ready are blessed.

The message?
Jesus is coming back. The question is — will we be ready?

✨ Key Truth

Being ready is not about predicting the time — it is about living faithfully every day.

Jesus describes servants who stay watchful, doing their responsibilities even when the master seems delayed. Their readiness is shown through faithfulness, obedience, and consistency.

🔎 What Does It Mean to Be Ready?

Watchful Heart
We stay spiritually alert — praying, reading God’s Word, and guarding our lives from sin.
📖 1 Peter 5:8 — Be sober, be vigilant.

Faithful Living
The good servant continues serving even when no one is watching.
Readiness is proven in ordinary days.

Responsible Stewardship
God has entrusted us with time, gifts, family, ministry, and opportunities.
We are called to manage them well until He returns.

🔥 What Does “Ready” Look Like for Youth?

Being ready is not about being perfect.
It’s about being faithful.

1️⃣ Ready in Your Private Life

Who you are when no one is watching matters.
• Do you still honor God online?
• Do you still choose right when friends aren’t around?
• Do you guard your heart and mind?

📖 Luke 12:40 — “Be ready…”

2️⃣ Ready in Your Responsibilities

Jesus talks about a faithful servant who keeps doing his job.

For you, that could mean:
• Studying well
• Respecting your parents
• Serving in church
• Being a light in school

Faithfulness in small things prepares you for bigger things.

3️⃣ Ready in Your Relationship with Jesus

Readiness is not about fear — it’s about relationship.

If Jesus came today:
• Would you be confident?
• Or would you feel distant from Him?

The best way to be ready is to walk with Him daily.

⚠️ Warning from the Passage |  ⚠️ Warning for Our Generation

Jesus contrasts the faithful servant with the careless one who assumes, “My master is taking a long time.”

That’s dangerous thinking. Spiritual danger begins when we grow comfortable, distracted, or complacent.

Delay does not mean absence.
Silence does not mean God is not coming.

Sometimes we think:
• “I’ll get serious about God later.”
• “I’m still young.”
• “There’s still time.”

But none of us knows the exact time.

Delay doesn’t mean Jesus isn’t coming.

❤️ Application Questions

• If Jesus returned today, what areas of my life would need surrender?
• Am I serving God only when it is convenient?
• How can I live more intentionally this week?

🙏 Call to Readiness

The gospel is an invitation to be ready — not through fear, but through relationship with Christ.

Because of salvation through Jesus, we can live prepared, confident, and faithful.

If you have not fully trusted Him, today is the day to respond.
Surrender your life. Walk daily with Him. Stay watchful.

📌 Memory Verse

Luke 12:40 — “Be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect Him.”

Ready or not — Jesus is coming.
The wise choose readiness today.

🕊️ Prayer

Lord, help me live ready — not anxious, but faithful.
Teach me to serve even in waiting, to obey even in silence, and to trust Your timing.
